Innerhalb der EU gibt es immer noch 5 Länder in denen Schwangerschaftsabbrüche illegal sind. In Polen finden jedes Jahr etwa 200.000 illegale Abtreibungen statt, während jeden Tag durchschnittlich 16 Frauen aus Irland nach England reisen müssen, um einen sicheren Abbruch zu bekommen.
Es gab bereits Versuche die restriktiven Abtreibungsgesetze beim Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte anzufechten: in Polen verklagte 2005 Alicja Tysiac den polnischen Staat, um wenigstens die bestehende Indikationsregelung zu erstreiten und gerade findet ein Prozess von 3 Irinnen statt, die gegen das irische Gesetz klagen.
Basierend auf diesen Versuchen und auf der Empfehlung des Europarats 2008 Abtreibung zu entkriminalisieren möchten wir mit Pro-Choice Aktivistinnen aus Polen und Irland diskutieren, um gemeinsam Strategien und Möglichkeiten zu ergründen, wie beide Länder gemeinsam vorgehen können Schwangerschaftsabbrüche innerhalb der EU zu legalisieren und frei zugänglich zu machen.

Within the EU there are still five countries in which abortion is illegal.
In Poland about 200.000 illegal abortion take place annually, while about 17 women travel every day from Ireland to UK for a safe legal abortion.
We want to discuss with Pro-Choice activists from Poland and Ireland to find strategies how these countries can support each other to legalize abortion and to make access to safe affordable abortion a fundamental human right.
